When working with machinery that requires repairs, it’s a necessity to lockout and tagout the energy source to prevent serious injury, illness or even death. These energy sources include: electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, and thermal. If these sources of energy are not locked out and tagged out, workers are exposed to injuries such as: electrocution, burns, crushing, cutting, lacerating, amputating, or fracturing body parts. This issue seems to happen more often then we can imagine; in fact, nearly 10 percent of all workplace accidents stem from the failure to use lockout tagout devices. Under OSHA regulation 29 CFR 1910.147, workplaces need to implement OSHA’s strategy for lockout tagout measures.1
